FOREVER PIRATES

Text and photos by Don Cummings

There will always be pirates on Treasure Island. How do you think that the Island received its name? They may walk around in shorts and sandals, but alas, don’t stir them up as an article in the St. Pete Times recently managed. They will darn their garb and the lot of them will snarl at those who say there are no more pirates in Treasure Island. No more pirates in Treasure Island? Perhaps the city had better replace the pirate signs. It appears the signs were removed because the visitors enjoyed them so much that some wanted to take a photo.

Hello-o-o-o!

We thought the visitors came to town to spend money that creates additional tax revenue for the city coffers so the city doesn’t have to dig into the reserves to pay for services we have taken for granted for so many years because we had so many visitors spending much money enjoying the Buccaneer-themed island.

Hello-o-o-!

Yes, there are still pirates on Treasure Island and they all dress differently. Don’t stir them up mate, or you’re apt to see a mutiny.
