Featuring fun, food, a silent auction, arts, crafts, drink and entertainment
including live music by the Swinging Mooks, Michael Southern and the
Smoking Guns, Elevated, Big Brother and Tom Gribbin and the Saltwater
Cowboys.
When: Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008
Where: Sloppy Joe’s in Treasure Island located at 10650 Gulf Blvd.
Cost: There is no cost for the event. The Treasure Island Chamber of
Commerce is selling food and drink VIP tickets for $25. Contact the
Chamber at (727) 360-4121 or tchamber@tampabay.rr.com. Parking is
available at 112th Avenue for a $10 donation.
Details: This event, hosted by the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce
and Sloppy Joe’s Restaurant, is being held to draw attention to
two important causes - Florida’s endangered sea turtles and the more
than 20 percent of Floridians living with disabilities. Jacksonville resident
and well-known marine life artist Tony Ryals will be on hand demonstrating
his talents to raise awareness for the organizations. Ryals has
Arthrogryposis, a disorder causing severe joint and muscle weakness in
the limbs. As a result, Ryals paints the only way he can, by holding the
paintbrush in his mouth.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Clearwater Marine Aquarium
(CMA), the Family Network on Disabilities of Florida (FND) and the
Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce.
The CMA is active in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sea turtles.
Since 2006, it has released approximately 13,000 hatchlings. Pinellas
County selected the aquarium to monitor approximately 26 miles of
coastline and report nesting activity.
FND has been serving Florida families for more than 20 years and is a
statewide network of families and individuals who might be at-risk, have
disabilities or special needs. The organization believes everyone has intrinsic
value and the right to respect, independence, knowledge, freedom
of choice, inclusion, quality of life, success and equality.
Officials hope to make this an annual event and need your help to make
it happen.
Please call Sarah Lopez at (321) 228-9772 for sponsorship information.
